Te Mihi team have taken part in the “Get New Zealand Writing” kit which is a nationwide initiative to get kiwi kids writing and sharing each others work across the country.

Each class receives a writing kit project box with a range of tasks to complete including 32 postcards, a Found Poem activity sheet and a Courier Postbag addressed to our partner school.

Te Mihi students really enjoyed navigating their way through the activities.  They have gathered class statistics, identified destinations around Taupo, learnt how to use metaphoric language in which have all written metaphors to describe themselves.

“Izayleah is a rainbow, shining in the sky”

“Jacob is a monkey swinging from tree to tree”

“TeKaha Rolleston is a bull charging through rugby players”

“Declan is a dirt bike zooming across the desert”

“Gilbert Jepsen Is a springbok jumping over a horizontal pole”

They loved receiving postcards! Gone be the days of a good old-fashioned handwritten postcard. We were lucky enough to receive our postcards from Point View School in Auckland and the students had a great time piecing these together to form a secret message.

Te Mihi students had so much fun. Thanks to Warehouse Stationery for our #GetNZwriting kit.
