‘Give Back’ Tree Planting Day

As part of a joint venture between the Conservation Department and Landcorp NZ, our school participated in the planting 850 native trees, flax and grasses in Finn’s wetland area on the Mangamingi Landcorp Farm.

An overcast day however perfect for the new plants

It was a very cold day but the rain pretty much stayed away.

H&S talk with Farm and Conservation staff.

Enviro students and 6 parents travelled to the farm and completed the planting. Students also participated in water quality testing session with Enviroschools Facilitator, Cath Dudley, where they checked the pH levels, water clarity, bugs/insects, water temperature and flow.

Our successful morning was followed by an afternoon of ‘farm’ activities and games including washing the spades with a high-pressure hose, playing with the farm dogs, gumboot throwing, tug of war, sack racing and running races around the paddock.

Washing the spades with a high pressure hose was fun.

We look forward to visiting the area in the future to see how the plants have grown.

Thank you to the Bolton family, for providing lunch and the farm to plant the trees on, Conservation Volunteer Staff and our parents for a wonderful day.
