Plastic can be fantastic

Room 9 has been looking into what global problems we have here in New Zealand.

While exploring the current news we found out that in New Zealand we have lots of recycled plastic that we can’t do anything with. Warehouses and yards stacked very high with cubed plastic bottles and containers just sitting there. We started to look at the life of plastic, the uses of plastic. We discovered that you can only recycle plastic once and then you have to throw it out,

Maddox: it takes about 500 years for plastic to start to decompose

Luca: We burn our plastic so it's okay we don’t add to the landfill.

.

We started to think of things we need or want that is made of plastic. We began to create piggy banks.

We then started looking at other countries and were shocked to find out that there are countries that grow food because they don't have space or the ground is not good for growing food. We then came up with the idea

Nathan: why can’t they use our bottles to plant their food in

Zoe: They need to be big cause plants grow big

Lachlan: They would use less water

We set about designing and planning and creating prototypes.
