Trust Tree

The Trust Tree represents the class agreement to create a positive learning environment. Through several class discussions, the students agreed to work together, trust each other, follow the classroom rules, and use the school’s POWER values of Pride, Opportunity, Whānau, Excellence, and Respect.

Agreement

Students decided, at the beginning of the year with Mrs Griffin’s help, to the following statements:

  • We want our class to be an exciting, fun, and safe place to learn.
  • We will look after ourselves and each other.
  • We will make thoughtful and sensible behaviour choices.
Each leaf on the Trust Tree represents valued quality students will strive for. These qualities come from the school’s POWER values. They are identified and discussed weekly during morning mat time and Circle Time.

Handprints

Each student’s handprint is added to the Trust Tree to show their commitment to being a class member. These symbolise their agreement to follow the classroom rules, uphold the school values, and demonstrate the ‘leaf’ qualities.

I like my orange handprint.

I will try hard to follow the classroom rules.

When Mrs. Griffin puts my handprint on our Trust Tree, it shows I am part of Room 16. I like being in Room 16. I will follow the rules and do my best.

A growing tree

The Trust Tree is a growing tree. Mrs Griffin and the students will add leaves weekly and handprints to the tree as new students start school.  Thankfully, this tree doesn’t need watering or sunshine.

2024 Griffin

Fiona Griffin

I believe Wairakei Primary School is a special place. It provides a safe environment for our children to discover, create and develop their love of learning.

I grew up in Taupō and have lived here most of my life. I am married with two grown sons and two delightful grandchildren. My husband and I enjoy travelling, spending time with our family and friends, tramping and camping. I love arts and crafts, in particular painting and sketching. Before becoming a teacher, I was a tailor and had my own clothing design business. I still enjoy designing and making clothing, especially wedding dresses.

I have been a teacher since 2005. I joined Wairakei Primary School in 2018. I love teaching and I especially love teaching at Wairakei Primary School. I became a teacher after 7 years as a scout leader for 1st Taupō Scouts. This was where I realised my desire to inspire and educate children was more important to me than just one hour, once a week.
