Athletics Prize Giving is an opportunity to acknowledge the efforts of all children who took part in the school athletics day and tried their best. It’s also a chance to celebrate the success of Years 4-6 children who did particularly well on the athletics day, finishing first, second or third. These children received a gold, silver or bronze certificate for their success in these events.
Students who came first, second or third also went on to represent Wairakei Primary School at the Taupo Interschool’s Athletics day.
Following are the certificate winners:
The highest honour at the prize giving is being recognised as an Athletics Champion for the year level. Each year there is one boy and girl at each year level for Years 4-6. A points system across events is used to determine these award winners. Each of these children received a Wairakei medal for showing all-round athletic excellence.
Out of all of these children that represented Wairakei Primary School at Taupo Interschool Athletics event, 20 of them received a first, second or third placing. Out of these 20 children, 17 of them were girls, which is a wonderful representation of girls at Wairakei Primary School in athletics. The events children had the most success at was high jump and the 800 metres.
Out of the many schools competing, Wairakei placed third overall at the Taupo Interschool’s Athletics, which is a great achievement.
On behalf of Wairakei Primary School, I’d like to say a special congratulations to all our award winners. You did yourselves and our school proud.
