I have been involved with Wairakei Primary for at least eight years volunteering in a range of activities that support the students’ learning, as well as building positive relationships between Wairakei Playcentre and the School. Over these years I have built a warm relationship with the staff and students who attend.
My husband and I have two children who have both enjoyed their years at the school. I have watched them grow in confidence and cheekiness as they have developed a sense of belonging within the school environment. The school has taught them to take calculated risks, both in their lives and their learning.
My background is early childhood education where you think differently, and play takes a big role in the learning process. It is a place where children learn ‘pre’ everything to be ready to engage in more structured activities. I believe my experience as an early childhood teacher can be utilised in imaginative ways to engage students in life-long learning.
