Week 1 Term 4, 2025
Pet Day
Hannah and Tracey are tackling their first Pet Day. The run sheets are being organised and posts on Facebook, tile and @School have been going out. All the information you need is on the website page and there is a download link for the Pet Day Booklet
There is still time to register your pet: Pet Day Registration Form 2025. Even with the variable weather conditions, Pet Day will go ahead.
There are a few changes for the day. The range of raffles are on offer:
-
meat raffles
-
grocery raffles
-
$100 bill raffle
-
two Waikato Chiefs memorabilia raffles
- art prints raffles
For the children, there is candy floss and bright stick-on tattoos. The popular cake sale is happening outside Room 5 with Mrs Whippy and a coffee cart. There will be the usual steak sandwiches and sausage sizzle, plus the ever-popular pulled pork buns. Judging starts a bit earlier and is from 9 a.m. I am looking forward to seeing the bean competition as Mitre 10 have sponsored prizes for this event.
Tutoring
There has been an increase in the number of students attending tutoring during school time. The thing about any kind of additional support, like tutoring, is that it works best when it is a double-up on what is being learnt in the classroom. Both school and tutoring have to work in tandem to be most effective.
When students leave the school to go to tutoring during school time, it is not always possible to get the double teaching, as they are missing out on what happens in the classroom.
The best time for tutoring is after school as an extra activity, much like training for a sports team.
End of Year Assembly
One big assembly this year. The whole school is travelling to Taupo-nui-a-Tia College on December 15, 2025, leaving at 9.15 a.m. All year groups will receive their POWER Awards. The Year 6 students will also receive the end-of-year trophies. The sports awards will be presented at this assembly as well.
Once the assembly has concluded, students will return to school for the last full day of instruction. Parents can take their children at the end of the assembly if they wish.
Jed Walker, ex-student of Wairakei Primary School
With sadness, I need to inform the school community that Jed Walker, an ex-student of the school, has passed away. Jed was a very active member of the school community during his time at Wairakei. He was in the first Maths Matters team that went on to win a medal in that competition. His memorial service will be held at Taupo-nui-a-Tia College on Sunday, October 12, at 2 p.m. There will be a live link to the service that will be shared with the community on the school's Facebook page.
