#1 - Junior students always come up and ask her to tie their laces during morning tea and lunchtime. It’s a long way to bend down lots of times in a break.
#2 - Mrs Foley can only tie her laces one way - using the double bunny ears method. This doesn’t stay done up very well.
Room three made it their technological challenge to solve this problem and make life easier.
The first step was to find out if it was in fact a problem. They surveyed each class to find out how many students could tie their laces and which way did they tie them.
Our data also showed that like Mrs Foley, the majority of students who could tie their laces could only do so using the two bunny ears method.
Our data had proved that this was a problem - Mrs Foley was right! So the next step was to start designing their own, cost effective, appropriate resources to help teach students to tie their laces.
Some groups chose to develop products similar to those already on the market.
While others chose to follow a more digital path, creating videos that would show students what to do at each step.
Testing out our products was next. Students took their products to junior classes and they had a go.
Room 3 has a plan to improve the number of juniors who can tie their shoes and I wonder if Mrs Foley will be able to use these to learn to tie her shoes the other way?
