Arranging a holiday like this needed careful planning. Experts were required to help the students with planning their journey.

Room 4 students, our buddy class, took on the role of travel agents. Their job was to convince the travelers from Room 15 to choose their airlines, tourist destinations, places of interest, cafes and cinemas.

I liked hearing about the different places I can visit there.

The students brainstormed what they knew about Spain. There were many ideas raised about Spain and where it is in the world. Some students thought it would take many hours to fly there. The students decided they needed to know more about Spain.

The travel agents told us lots of things about Spain. I liked being with my buddy (travel agent) to learn about Spain.

When the travel agents visited Room 15, they shared the brochures. Each travel agent read their brochure to their traveler, and they pointed out some of the fun things they could do in Spain. Room 15 students needed to listen carefully and decide what they might like to see and do.

After the travel agents returned to their businesses (classroom), Room 15 students discussed what they had seen and heard. Students remembered some tourist hot spots, and they tried describing what they looked like. A list was made of their favourite places to visit. Students learnt they could acquire information from listening to an expert and looking at pictures.

The brochures were so colourful. There were lots of pictures

The next step to going on their holiday to Spain was to organise their passports and pack their bags. Students would need to research what a passport is and what information is in it. They would also need to investigate the climate so they could pack appropriate clothing to take.

It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression & knowledge. - Albert Einstein

‘Awakening student’s joy of creative expression and knowledge’, Albert understood the importance of every learner experiencing excitement and delight. Creating environments and situations in which students have opportunities to express themselves and to be heard.

With a focus on developing students’ love of learning, forming connections with my students within a vibrant and welcoming environment is at the heart of my teaching beliefs. Exciting learning experiences are explored through sight, sound and movement. Multisensory experiences provide learners with options to acquire knowledge and skills. Nurturing students’ individuality is valued and celebrated.

Out of the classroom during my personal time, my love of camping, fishing and exploring New Zealand’s natural surroundings provides me with the inspiration to bring curiosity into the classroom. Every experience, whether it is fishing on Snapper Rock at Waiinu Beach or blending sounds to read words in the classroom,is an opportunity to explore, discover and share.
