Week 5 Term 2, 2026

Reporting to Whānau

In the previous newsletter, I wrote about the reporting to parents timeframes and how the report was with the developer. There has been no further development toward completing the report form. The teachers and I have decided to delay sending home the mid-year report until early Term Three. The report will be sent online to all parents and caregivers, quickly followed by parent-teacher discussions at the start of the term.

This is not a preferred option for the teachers, as I am sure it is not for you. I did look into using an older style report for now. The problem is that the developer would need to update that report, delaying the proper report further. A catch twenty-two situation. If this changes, I will keep you posted

Parking

Staff Car Park

After parental complaints about the traffic in the staff car park, I have decided to put up barriers to stop cars from parking in the staff car park. Disability parks are still available and can be used. If you need assistance, please call the office.

Parking on the Verge on Rata Street

There was a near miss when a child ran across Rata Street to the shop carpark, thinking it was safe to cross. Traffic coming down Rata Street was hidden by cars parked on the verge. Please move further down Rata Street to park your car.

Competition Winner

Well done to Linaya for coming second in the colouring competition held over the term break.

Board Update

Kia Ora Whānau, my name is Andy Bedford, and I am the current presiding member of the Wairakei Primary School Board. I live locally in Kinloch, and my daughter is in Year 4 at Wairakei Primary. For work, I am the General Manager for a business called Ecogas, which is based in Reporoa.

Over the coming school newsletters, I'm going to introduce the rest of the Board of Wairakei Primary and keep you informed on what we have been doing as a board. The key role of any school board is to ensure we provide good governance over school activities and make sure all policies support teachers in doing what they do best – teaching children. We are incredibly lucky with the teaching group that we have at Wairakei, as well as the leadership we have from Paula and Hannah.

If you want to find out more or come along to a board of trustee meeting, please get in touch with me at any stage. Andy
