Week 3 Term 2, 2026

Reporting to Whānau

There are a few changes to how your child’s progress and achievement will be reported this year. The first report the school will be sending out will be at the end of the term. The report will be an online report available in the school app.  Currently, the design for the report is with the developer, and staff will see it for the first time in a few weeks.

Instead of focusing on levels or reading book colours that most parents do not understand, the report includes more detailed descriptions of what your child can do, how they are progressing, and the next steps in their learning. The follow up face-to-face meeting with teachers is important to help understand where your child’s progress is.

There is also a stronger emphasis on recognising individual strengths, effort, and growth over time.

The Ministry, who developed the framework for the report, would like all parents to see

  • More plain-language comments about learning progress

  • Clearer links to classroom learning goals

  • Information about key competencies, such as thinking and relating to others

  • Opportunities for student voice or self-reflection

These changes aim to make reports easier to understand and more useful for supporting learning at home.

A lot of information on how schools report to families is found at Reporting to Parents  https://newzealandcurriculum.tahurangi.education.govt.nz/reporting-to-parents-and-wh-nau/5637158852.p

This site is often updated on what is happening in the education world before it is forwarded to schools. It is a good idea to bookmark this site and keep a regular eye on it.

Attendance

Last Friday, the school celebrated students who had 98 percent and above attendance rates. I had a collection of certificates to give out. Many families were represented, and the well-being balls were given out. It was a great experience to acknowledge students who have excellent attendance at school.

Winter Sports

Beyond the classroom, Winter Sports teams are practising hard and getting ready for the upcoming season. Sportsmanship and fair play are just as important as the final score. We wish all our athletes the best of luck—play well!
