Week 7 Term 1, 2025
Winter Sports Registrations
It is time to start thinking about the winter sports your child will play. Please use the online form for hockey and netball. The Basketball Association is still to tell us the details for the season. They are waiting for the floor to be repaired. Once we know more details we will pass them on.
Room 13 Cupcake Fundraiser
The cupcake sale raised $600 for Room 13. There was a lot of excitement by the members of Room 13 as they planned and prepared for the sale. The line did move quickly so everyone could have a cupcake if they wanted one.
Sports
Well done to the team that represented the school at the Waikato/BOP schools mountain biking event on March 12. Our team did extremely well on the day and enjoyed all their time participating as a team.
- Donovan: 3rd Year 5 Boys race
- Micah: 1st Year 6 Girls Race
- Benjamin: 3rd Year 6 Boys Race
Benjamin had the opportunity to join with George and Edmund (fellow Taupō MTB members) and competed in the Junior Relay Boys race and placed 2nd.
Sponsors
Event Rent are fantastic supporters of the school and have extended their generosity to the rest of the community. By using their coupon and booking the bouncy castles you get to make the most of the support they provide the school.
Woolworths has given fruit to schools. What a delight it is to have fruit to offer to our students. This kind donation is greatly received and very much appreciated. A big thank you to the staff and management at Woolworths supermarket.
Student Behaviour
The senior school teachers put out an email to all families with Years 5 and 6 students. This email is about some of the behaviour we are seeing at school. Bringing make-up to school is causing issues. Leaving class to add lip gloss and make-up has become a thing. So the teachers and I are wanting to stop this. Sunblock without tints and lip balm for cracked lips is fine. The rest needs to stay at home. What happens after 3 pm is a parental matter.
Social media is influencing some students to make inappropriate choices. Hearing today that students are setting out to make the teacher cry or leave the room is unacceptable. It is a form of bullying. Even trying to do this because it may appear funny or cool shows the impact social media has. I was very disappointed to hear that this was happening. In a teacher shortage that is the last thing that needs to happen.
Pantsing has started again among the boys. Parents telling their children to do this is not the way to go. Nothing was ever solved by doing something to embarrass another person. I have told the boys that I saw attempting to do this that making a phone call home to explain to their family why they do this would embarrass them.
Board of Trustees
Have you thought about being on the Board of Trustees? There is a meeting coming up on April 1, 2025, starting at 5.30 pm in the staffroom. Come along and see what is involved in being a member of the board. Ring any of the current board members to find out what happens. It is a great way to find out what is happening in the school. The board needs a range of skills to make it work.
