Raparapa, 2025 Term Four

Celebration of Learning

Families are invited to the Celebration of Learning. Students will be sharing their work and demonstrating learning in action. A hands-on craft activity will also be available for parents to join.

Literacy Learning – Better Start Literacy Approach (BSLA)

Year 0–1 students will continue with daily BSLA lessons. This structured literacy approach builds strong foundations in Reading and Writing through:

Phonemic Awareness: Playing with sounds in words (rhyming, syllables, first/last sounds)

Phonics: Connecting sounds to letters and learning to read/write simple words

Decoding Skills: Sounding out unfamiliar words instead of guessing

Spelling & Writing: Practising letters, spelling words, and writing simple sentences

Oral Language & Vocabulary: Storytelling, speaking, and vocabulary development

Reading Practice: Reading books aligned with phonics and learning to build fluency

Mathematics

Students will be developing number skills through a variety of engaging activities. The focus areas include:

Counting On and Back: Using number lines, songs, and games to count forwards and backwards from any number up to 20 and beyond.

Working with Numbers to 20: Understanding number order, comparing numbers, and recognising patterns within this range.

Addition and Subtraction: Using practical resources, pictures, and mental strategies to solve number problems within 20.

Halving and Doubling: Exploring these concepts using objects, drawings, and number facts to build fluency.

Money: Recognising coins, understanding their value, and using them in simple addition and subtraction problems.

Odd and Even Numbers: Identifying odd and even numbers through patterns and hands-on activities.

Year 0 will be focusing on building strong number foundations through practical learning to build on in Year 1.

Reading at Home

Students should be bringing home their weekly reader and Home-Link Book in their bookbags. Signing the Home-Link Book helps reinforce reading at home and supports ongoing progress.

Athletics

The Physical Education lessons for Term 4 are focused on building athletic skills in preparation for Athletics Day.

Raparapa Day Trip - Dropzone Trampoline Park and Playground
