After ten weeks of enthusiastic practice and preparation, the whole school is ready to make their record-breaking attempt with a high-energy, all-school line dance to the tune of "Good Time" by Alan Jackson!
From the very first practice, the excitement was palpable. Students from every year level and staff members from teachers to support staff threw themselves into learning the steps. What started as small groups practicing in classrooms quickly grew into a school-wide movement as the whole community joined in.
Teachers, who had never line danced before, were soon leading their students in the steps, and even the principal was spotted practicing the routine in the staffroom! The energy was contagious, and the kids loved every moment of it —this isn’t just any end-of-year celebration; this is going to be a record-breaking spectacle.
To help perfect their moves, the school added a new twist to their rehearsals: flash mob practices during lunch breaks. In the school hall, the dance was taught in smaller sections, and soon students could be seen gathering at lunchtime, eager to show off what they’d learned. These impromptu flash mob practices turned into exciting mini-events, with students encouraging each other, swapping tips, and sharing the fun. Some even added their own spins to the routine, incorporating their creativity into the moves. Teachers joined in too, creating an atmosphere of unity and joy.
The moment of truth is fast approaching. Wairakei Primary will attempt to set a new school record for the largest line dance performance ever. With every student and staff member taking part, it’s set to be a showstopper! The goal is to have everyone on the school grounds dancing in sync to Alan Jackson’s “Good Time,” creating a heartwarming display of school spirit, teamwork, and joy. It’s about creating memories, strengthening school spirit, and giving students a sense of achievement and camaraderie.
