Tuakana-teina was shown naturally by the senior students looking out for and caring for younger students in a playful way. The senior students helped their younger peers take turns, climb on and off, and feel safe and included. Whether it was offering a steady hand, waiting patiently, or helping someone up after a tumble, there were many moments of leadership and support.

The bouncy castles were a powerful lesson in sharing space and managing emotions. Tamariki waited their turn, were mindful of others, and used self-control. Students could be seen taking initiative, setting the example by stepping aside for others, helping calm nervous peers, and keeping the energy fun and fair while playing a game of tag.

Thank you  to Event Rent, who made the day extra smooth by dropping off and picking up the bouncy castles with absolutely no hassle. Their friendly service and reliability solved many headaches.

Laura said she was happy she was able to help a junior student to get onto the bouncy castle so they could join in on the fun too.

It was fun going down the slide because when you went down, it was steep. There was only one person at a time, so we had the whole slide to ourselves. The basketball hoop was a lot of fun because we could practice our shooting and dunking skills. It was really bouncy, but we had to be safe when bouncing and look around us to make sure we wouldn’t bounce on anyone else.

I was helping people in the bouncy castle by staying in line so they don’t get hurt.”

I waited patiently for my turn in the line to go down the slide. I had to not push in front of people, otherwise people would get hurt.

I had to take turns and wait in line so people didn’t get angry at each other for pushing in.

Flo and I helped a younger student because she almost fell over on the slide. We asked if she wanted to play with us and gave her a helping hand to keep her steady.

I helped my sister get off the bouncy castle when there was too much motion and she kept falling over. I took her to a different bouncy castle where there were fewer people.

Having the  Whare Tiaki bouncy castle reward day was a celebration of teamwork, leadership, and school values, where students cooperated with each other.
