The challenges themselves were interactive, fun and very different from anything expected. The atmosphere was fantastic
Joshua and Connor took to the skies with their challenge — The Master Plane — with the goal of building the best paper airplane. During the planning phase, a fantastic real-world maths moment unfolded when Connor discovered the difference between 35km and 35m! Seeing the challenge set up in real life also sparked some great thinking, with adjustments made on the spot to make sure everything worked perfectly. Connor was genuinely surprised at how the results played out — a reminder that testing, reflecting and adapting is all part of the learning journey.
Tuhuatahi has been on a learning journey, building the skills and mindset that will carry all students on in life. The tamariki have been diving deep into the power of goal setting — discovering that success doesn't happen by accident, it happens by design!
Along the way, skills have been developed: breaking big tasks into manageable steps, thinking critically about what is needed to succeed, and communicating with clarity and precision. Being specific with instructions and planning ahead makes all the difference between a good idea and a great outcome.
